Sky Q launches in Italy next week

Sky Q is bringing its next generation set-top to the Italian market. The broadcaster is promising to transform the delivery of linear, on demand and recorded programming.

“Today we’re experiencing the same enthusiasm and sense of transformation that we experienced in 2003 with the birth of Sky,” said Andrea Zappia, managing director, Sky Italia “This is a new start for us. As then, we are going to offer Italian families something that can really change the quality of time they spend on TV, giving more value to what they have that is the most valuable, their free time. Sky Q technology comes into everyday life in a simple way, everything is so easy and intuitive that every new action turns in a moment into a new habit. It is no coincidence that one of the key words of the Sky Q launch campaign will be “Technology”, just to give you a sense of how technology can improve people’s lives.”

Features are being rolled out over time including 4K HDR content and voice control. There are also plans to bring in the Sky Soundbox and next spring Sky Q Black.

It will become generally available from November 29. It’s launch was trailled by Zappia as far back as March 2016.

As with the UK, the Sky Q Platinum box connects to both the satellite dish and the internet – Sky has previously revealed an internet only version to be in the works – the Sky Mini works wirelessly with second sets while the Sky Go app puts content on mobiles and tablets both in and out of the home.

The Sky Q Platinum box has a 2 terabyte memory that records up to 1,000 hours of HD content and up to 4 programs at one time.

Sky is bundling the installation of a Sky Q and a Sky Q Mini box for €199. Customers then need to pay a monthly subscription for the Sky Q Plus package; €4 per month extra for long-standing customers to the HD pack six years or more and €15 to new customers.
